New year purging 2015

I promised I would keep updates on my New year purging for the new year in my last post.

Obviously, I started with some Christmas decorations. I culled out some old things and organized some of the keepers a bit better. I could have done more with them and I will next year, but I just wanted things put away.

On to the closets…

The kids are easy, doesn’t fit – out it goes.  I set aside some nice things to take to the consignment shop and the rest went into the donation bag.  I got one whole bag of just their stuff.

purging and decluttering

My closet, actually is pretty tidy and organized, but I am trying to make some room to keep bed linens on the top shelf.  I did the basic sweep for thread worn,  ill fitting and just plain old items and filled almost a whole bag too.

When we were selling our house last year, I really paired down the closet and staged it in a color scheme.  I kept out all and only my favorite clothing.  It looked so nice.  I really didn’t miss much of what had been packed away and a lot was donated after I schlepped it across town and unpacked it.  The whole process made me realize that I really do only wear a couple of colors, blue and pink.  I wear all different shades and hues, but really only those colors.  I also wear black, gray, white denim and the occasional Khaki ( I’m not a total freak). I made a conscious decision to stick to only blue and pink going forward when I shop.  We have been spending most of our extra money on the house, but the little bit that I have shopped, I have kept this in mind.  I did not dump everything that was not in that color scheme, but after a year has passed, I really have not worn red.  So this time this got tossed too.

I also realized that I really find coordinating a brown outfit to be generally anxiety inducing.  It is too complicated.  Some people can thrown on 3 shades of brown and rock it like nobody’s business, but I am just not a brown person.  I really only had a few items so they got pitched out as well.

I I did keep a couple of brown items that I can use to break up an otherwise all black ensemble.  Also, I kept some red accessories and items with red in them, because I do wear them.

So here is the closet now.  How did I even have that bag of stuff crammed in there?

New year purging

The closet still has waaay too much in it, not too mention some of my summer items are in my boy’s closet.  I did manage to make room for the bed linens though,  I will be buying some  bins or maybe making some fabric baskets for them soon.  I will post about them if it becomes a sewing project…

I have since filled a third bag and the Hubs added some of his stuff too.

Are you doing any New year purging?  How is it going?

Purging and decluttering

January is the time for that obligatory post about purging and organizing. I always go clutter crazy and organize after the holidays. Not because it is a new year, fresh start and all of that conventional wisdom type stuff. No, I do it because after the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the extra clutter of the decorations and general stuff, I need a blank slate, a reset. The walls feel so blank and the house feels so bright and I need that clean feeling for a couple of weeks. Then there is that long stretch of winter we still have to get through. Stuck inside more often than not. I need the space to breath and take it in for a bit. By the end of January and beginning of February, I am plotting new decorating projects.

All through the year, when something seems disorganized, or full of clutter or we acquire too much stuff, I reach a breaking point and deal with it. I did a lot of purging before we moved last fall, after we moved last winter and a little purging and decluttering in between the and now. I never think there is more, but there is always more. I have been busy purging closets and nooks and crannies of unneeded items and does it ever feel good. I have a charity pick up scheduled for early February, so I will share a few of my purges and reorganizations as we finish out the month. Stay tuned for more posts on how I got to this pile.

First new products of the year Valentine’s Day hair pins

Valentine’s Day hair pin sets are here – I have been so excited to get these made and photographed.  I bought the supplies some time ago, but could not jump THAT far ahead to Valentine’s Day.  Now it is a respectable distance off and I am excited to put these new hair pins up for sale.   They are all made to order with custom color choices and bobby pin metal selection.

Valentine's Day hair pin Pink Cream and black heart hair pins

First there is this great trio of hearts.  Each heart is made of clustered flowers.  They are like that fantasy box of special chocolates that your love gives to you.  They are so fun.  I am offering them as a mix and match group so buyers can get three of one color or any combination that they want.

This set is a bit softer.  This one also includes the the clustered flower heart, but also a pink mum and a cream sakura flower.  So pretty.

Then there is this set of two simple pink mums.  Striking and easy to wear year round.

Valentine's Day hair pin Layered vintage button hair pinks pink red

My favorite of all the Valentine’s Day hair pin sets is this ready to ship.  Vintage buttons in pink and red layered together with embroidery floss on antique brass hair pins.  These are limited since the buttons were vintage, but so cute.  Together they are very Valentines, but worn separately they are perfect for everyday.

I have been busy in my studio and have many more new items and posts coming soon.
